What to expect
What does an actual treatment look like?
We always begin with an initial consultation to truly understand at the root level whatever you may be experiencing.
Western medicine, which is extremely skillful in addressing pathology, generally focuses on alleviating, eliminating, and reducing symptoms. Chinese Medicine as well as traditional medicines of many peoples understand that identifying the root cause of an illness is more important than addressing only the symptoms. These initial consultations serve the function of diagnosing the root causative factor of an illness. We do a physical exam, personal life history, take pulses, and other Taoist methods.
Pulse taking is an ancient method for assessing the balance and health of the twelve meridians of psych-physiological energy throughout the Body, Mind, and Spirit and it is an ongoing part of acupuncture work. In each treatment we will assess the health of the energy flow within your organ systems by deeply listening to the flow of energy on meridians perceived on the wrists. In each treatment a particular plant called moxa will be warmed on particular points within the body and then needles will be administered to stimulate the healing response within the body, mind, and Spirit.
We’ll use this time to develop a treatment plan and diagnosis unique to your needs.
Treatment Rhythms
How many treatments will I need?
This varies from person to person, however generally treatment begins on a weekly basis for three to four weeks after which time treatment frequency may change depending on your health.
Some people want bi-monthly treatment or treatments every three weeks, a month, or even seasonally if they’re in particularly robust health. As your health and life stressors adjust over time, treatment frequency can change.
Acupuncture has always been considered both curative and preventative as a health measure and in many ways can be seen as a regular way to maintain harmony at the level of body, mind, and Spirit. Most people find that the results speak for themselves and begin to develop an inner sense of when they are out of balance and need more regular support.
